While the new VRpatients platform went live in 2020, the company launched a new software version in April that included the trauma casting, new interventions, measurement units for administering medication, improvements to the dialogue system, and more.

The EMS World judging team interviewed the award finalists at the EMS World Expo held in Orlando in October. At the time, the company knew it was among 29 finalists, eight of which focused on education.

“I think the judges were very impressed with the realistic cast, ease of customization, and cost,” Marble said. “I saw the judge’s reaction after explaining how casting works and it’s just a click, drag and drop, and that really sets us apart.”

Using the platform’s case creation tool or one of the 20 predefined and common clinical case scenarios provided, users assign a medical scenario to a student, based on the skill or protocol that they want the student to learn. Educators are able to immediately assess students in a realistic, real-time virtual environment that is both repeatable and reproducible.

VRpatients is available in a web version (no headset required) and in fully immersive virtual reality deployed on Oculus, Pico or HTC Vive headsets.
