Yes, Android phones can also use Apple’s MagSafe. here’s how

One of my A favorite feature of phones in recent years is Apple’s MagSafe technology, which debuted in 2020. With a ring of magnets built into the back of the iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 ranges, you can attach various accessories, from batteries to phone handles. — and easily remove them when you don’t need them. You can mount the phone to a bike or car mount with one hand, and it’s also ideal when paired with MagSafe wireless chargers, as the magnets maintain perfect alignment with the coil, it doesn’t there is therefore no chance of displacement, which could result in a dead battery.

But what if you’re using an Android phone? Motorola was one of the only phone makers to have a similar type of magnetic modular technology, long before Apple introduced MagSafe to the iPhone, although its Moto Mods are effectively dead. Apple’s technology may be exclusive to its devices, but… listen closely: what if I told you that there are ways to take advantage of it?

Case makers have to build magnets into iPhone cases to maintain connection with MagSafe accessories – which is why you should use a MagSafe case if you have a recent iPhone – but these accessory companies carried the same Technology otherwise similar to cases for some Android phones, so everyone can enjoy the magnetic fruit of Apple’s labor.

There are a few caveats that I want to mention immediately. First, MagSafe-style magnetic cases are only available for a small number of Android devices, typically Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel phones. My personal favourite, which I will get into in depth soon, is Peak Design’s Everyday case. However, Moment also offers Samsung and Pixel magnetic cases, and you’ll also find the same at Mous.

If you don’t have a supported phone, all is not lost! Peak Design has a universal adapter that uses adhesive to stick to the back of your phone or phone case to mimic the same experience. Companies like Spigen and Mophie also have magnetic adapters that do the same to add support for MagSafe, although some of these may interfere with your device’s wireless charging capabilities.

Another problem is that even if you do have the right device, like the Pixel 7 with Peak Design’s Everyday Case, there’s no guarantee it will work with all MagSafe products. This is more specific to wireless chargers – in my testing, not all MagSafe wireless chargers will perfectly charge an Android phone, as the magnets in the case may not line up perfectly around the device’s wireless charging system himself. I’ve been lucky with most, but your mileage will vary.

That said, let me introduce you to the beauty of Peak Design’s Everyday Case. It works great as a case itself. The buttons are responsive and the fabric texture on the back is nice. I wouldn’t mind having a bigger lip around the edges to protect the screen, and the company might offer a few more color options – I really like the new sage color for the iPhone 14 Everyday Case, but unfortunately , it is not available for Samsung and Google cases.

Whether you choose the case for Samsung’s Galaxy S22 or S21 line or the Pixel 6 or 7 series, you’re entitled to magnets on the back. You’ll also notice a square recess in the center: this is Peak Design’s SlimLink mounting system. It adds an extra level of security for some accessories, especially bike and tripod mounts, so it doesn’t rely solely on magnets; the phone won’t fly away when you go over a small bump in the road.

I test a lot of e-scooters and folding e-bikes, and the Universal Bar Mount has been my favorite accessory for that reason alone. It’s easy to install on any handlebar, and I don’t have to bother mounting my device at all. After over a year of rides, my phone has never dropped, and it’s not just with the Everyday Case on the Pixel 7 and Galaxy S22 Ultra, but also the universal adapter that I have attached to a Pixel 5A last year. It’s just as easy to remove a phone from this mount; Simply press a button on the top or bottom of the holder to release it.
